    Did you ever write a joke that you wished you could take back because fate intervened ?

      No, because the time between when I write a joke and I send it out into the world is usually pretty short. So if I think a joke will be acceptable to an audience when I write it, I’ll probably feel the same way about the joke when, say, it airs on late-night TV or I post it on Twitter.

      I believe that one time, though, “Late Show with David Letterman” had to edit out of the show a joke about a plane crash. That’s because a plane actually crashed in the few hours between when the show was taped and when it aired.
